Safety Guide for Holiday Travels With Kids to Lisbon

Lisbon was an amazing place to visit with children, and with a little planning, the trip could be a pleasant and safe one for the whole family. Although there are many kid-friendly attractions in Lisbon, with its quaint streets and pleasant vibe, safety was our first priority while we were there.

Getting acquainted with the public transit system, which is safe and effective, was one of our first actions. We made sure to avoid peak hours since, although the trams—particularly the famous Tram 28—are a great way to see the city, they can get crowded. Since the metro is more roomy and less crowded, we chose to use it whenever possible with younger children. We also closely monitored our possessions, particularly in popular tourist destinations like Baixa and Alfama where pickpockets may be a problem. For piece of mind, a money belt and backpacks with zippers were quite helpful.

We enjoyed visiting Eduardo VII Park and the Lisbon Zoo for our outdoor adventures because they were both entertaining and provided lots of room for us to unwind and let the kids run about in a safe environment. We were careful to keep the children near to us in the zoo so they wouldn’t get lost in the bustle. We were able to stay cool during the warmer months because to the park’s abundance of covered spots.

We made sure the eateries were family-friendly when we went out to eat. Although there are many cafés in Lisbon with outside seating, we frequently choose areas like Parque das Nações that have taller chairs and room for strollers. The kids also enjoyed the kid-friendly dishes that many restaurants serve, such as grilled sardines and bacalhau (salted cod).

Last but not least, maintaining a small first aid bag with water, snacks, and bandages made sure we were always prepared for any little crises. Lisbon was a lovely and safe city to visit with kids, and by being organized, we could concentrate on making lifelong memories.
